Kentucky Governor Declares State of Emergency Amidst Severe Weather
Emergency Order Extends Price-Gouging Protections
FRANKFORT, Ky. - Governor Andy Beshear today declared a State of Emergency in Kentucky due to severe weather conditions. The order activates the state's Emergency Operations Plan and provides resources to respond to the storm's impacts.
Heavy Rainfall and Flooding Threat
The storm has brought heavy rainfall to Kentucky, causing flash flooding and road closures. The National Weather Service has issued flood warnings for several counties. Residents are urged to stay informed about the weather conditions and follow any evacuation orders issued by local officials.
Executive Order on Price Gouging
Governor Beshear also issued an executive order extending the state of emergency as it relates to price gouging. Price gouging is illegal in Kentucky, and the order prohibits businesses from charging excessive prices for essential commodities during a state of emergency.
Previous Storm Declarations
This is not the first time Governor Beshear has declared a State of Emergency due to severe weather this year.
- July 19, 2023: Heavy rainfall and flooding
- February 15, 2023: Winter storm with heavy snow and ice
